Burdwan: Burdwan Sadar police have arrested Tinku Shaw on charges of committing financial crimes under the guise of being a YouTuber. He is accused of embezzling Rs 7 lakh in cash and a motorcycle on the pretext of securing a liquor shop license. The accused is a resident of Loco Bhadrapalli area under Burdwan police station. Police claim that during initial interrogation, the accused confessed to the fraud. With court approval, police have taken him on a three-day police remand. Tinku Shaw is a YouTuber and claims to have worked as a stringer for several local newspapers. Rabindra Kumar Shaw, a resident of Keshtpur Baganbadi under Burdwan police station, had filed a case against Tinku in the Burdwan District Court. Based on this, the court ordered the IC of Burdwan police station to register a case and investigate. According to Rabindra Kumar, three years ago, a resident of Chakanjadi under Jamalpur police station introduced him to Tinku. They started visiting a shop in the Nabahat area and gradually became friends. Tinku claimed he had contacts in the Excise Department and could get a liquor shop license at a lower cost. He also got current accounts opened in two private banks in the Dhaldighi and Khagragarh areas of Burdwan city and promised to get the license in three months. Later, he took the checkbooks of those bank accounts. He withdrew Rs 7 lakh 80 thousand in multiple installments from him. Afterward, Rabindra was taken to a hotel in Newtown, Kolkata, and kept there for a few days to meet some people. Later, the accused demanded more money. He alleged that when he failed to pay, his motorcycle was taken away. When no liquor shop license was issued and he demanded a refund, Tinku refused to return the money, and when asked for the motorcycle back, he refused that as well.
