Asansol. Bengali scientist Ashok Sen, associated with the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), has become the first Indian to receive the 'Oscar Klein Medal'. He received this honor for his stellar contributions to theoretical physics. Earlier, great scientists like Stephen Hawking and Peter Higgs have been honored with this award. Ashok Sen's contribution to research on 'string theory' has received international recognition.
His research on 'string theory' holds special significance in the world of physics in unraveling the fundamental mysteries of the universe. Through this, scientists try to understand the fundamental particles of the universe and the different forces of nature in a single framework. Rajesh Gopakumar, Director of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, expressed happiness on receiving the award. The list of past recipients of this award shows its prestige. This recognition truly reflects Ashok Sen's standing among physicists worldwide.
Ashok Sen was born in Kolkata in 1956. After completing his schooling from Shailendra Sarkar School, he took admission in Presidency College. After graduating from there, he pursued his post-graduation from IIT Kanpur. Later, he moved to the United States of America (USA) for higher education. He completed his PhD from Stony Brook University. Following that, he made one crucial contribution after another in the world of research and earned international acclaim.
