ASANSOL. An initiative has been taken this Durga Puja to blend folk arts with cutting-edge technology to make them popular among the new generation. In Kolkata's puja pandals, whether it is Bankura's famous terracotta horses, Natun Gram's owls from East Bardhaman district, or the King and Queen dolls, all will appear dynamic at the click of a remote button. Three decades ago, children were amazed in this same city of Kolkata at Science City by bringing extinct dinosaurs to life. This initiative has been taken by Eveready Industries India Limited. Children can get these modern toys styled in folk art. To present Bengali folk art in a new way amidst the attractive market of foreign toys, a plan was made to give traditional terracotta horses, owls, or King-Queen dolls the form of remote-controlled toys. Company CEO Anirban Banerjee said that Bengali traditional folk art and handicraft have their own rich life and history. By associating Ultima battery technology with these artifacts, we are not only activating them but also bringing our tradition closer to the new generation. So far, Bengali clay horses or owls were mainly used as home decor items. These special toys will be seen in Kolkata's 95 Palli and Mudiali puja pandals, powered by a special brand of batteries. However, they are not for sale in the market. Yes, they can be won by participating in various games and events organized every hour at the pandals.
