Asansol. Baruipur is back in the headlines following the sexual assault of two girls, creating panic in the area. It is alleged that a middle-aged neighbor lured two children into an orchard with the promise of guavas and sexually assaulted them. The accused, Giyasuddin Sheikh, has been arrested by the police. According to police sources, the accused is 55 years old. Locals have demanded strict punishment for the accused. Later, Additional Superintendent of Police of Baruipur Police District, Atish Biswas, visited the spot, spoke to the victim family, and investigated the incident. The Baruipur police station has already initiated a probe.
Notably, Baruipur was gripped by tension last July over the gang rape and murder of a minor girl. There was massive outrage regarding the rape and murder of the 12-year-old minor, whose body was found in a pond in Suryapur, Baruipur. Police had arrested several people, including main accused Anand Sardar. During the crime scene reconstruction, one of the main accused, Prabhas Mondal, was shot by police while allegedly trying to escape, resulting in his death. This encounter had also sparked severe political tension.
