ASANSOL: The body of bank officer Purnima Mondal Baidya was recovered from Gopalnagar in North 24 Parganas. It is alleged that her husband, Sandip Baidya, had an illicit affair with a female police officer, which had been a long-standing dispute. Her parental home is in Chakdaha, Nadia district. Her family has registered a murder case against the in-laws at the police station. The deceased also has a daughter. 35-year-old Purnima's father is a resident of Chakdaha in Nadia district. Purnima was married 14 years ago to Sandip Baidya, a resident of Gopalnagar. The couple also has a daughter. It is alleged that atrocities increased ever since the birth of the daughter, and pressure was put to bring money from her parental home. Meanwhile, husband Sandip's closeness with a female police officer increased, sparking disputes between the couple. The deceased's sister, Seema Mondal, claims that around 2 AM, a day before the incident, Purnima called and stated she was being harassed and that an attempt was being made to kill her. The next day, the in-laws informed the family over the phone that Purnima was unwell and called them to Gopalnagar. Upon arrival, they were told that Purnima had died by suicide by hanging. Purnima's mother, Jharna Mondal, has blamed her in-laws for her daughter's death and demanded strict punishment for the accused. Police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint. The body has been recovered and sent for an autopsy. Police stated that the exact cause of death will be clear only after the preliminary report arrives, and investigators are ascertaining whether Purnima died by suicide or if there is another reason behind it.
