Bermo: Panic gripped the Govindpur project office in the CCL Kathara area on Friday when a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Dhanbad team caught two clerks red-handed while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 18,000. The sudden action caused chaos in the office premises.
During the operation, the CBI team arrested Meghlal Mahto, CMPF Dealing Clerk, and Mohammad Imtiyaz, Pension Dealing Clerk, of the Govindpur project office along with the alleged bribe money. Both are accused of demanding bribes in exchange for processing the pending CMPF and pension payments of a retired employee.
Payment Pending for Seven Months
It was reported that the entire matter is related to the pending dues of Rasul Jama, a resident of Janta Nagar who retired about seven months ago from the survey department of the Govindpur project. After retirement, his CMPF and pension payments were pending. It is alleged that both clerks were demanding bribes to process the payment and ensure early clearance.
Fed up after making rounds of the office for a long time, the victim Rasul Jama complained to CBI Dhanbad. Upon receiving the complaint, the CBI verified the allegations at a preliminary stage and planned a trap operation.
Trap Laid After Complaint
On Friday, while the complainant was allegedly handing over Rs 18,000, the pre-stationed CBI team caught both clerks. After completing necessary procedures, the team took both accused with them to Dhanbad.
As news of the sudden CBI action spread, a flutter was created in the project office. Further investigation and legal action by the CBI are underway in the matter.
