Asansol. On the orders of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the state government has initiated an investigation into motorcycle accidents on the painted roads of Park Circus Seven Point, Gariahat, and Chingrighata flyovers in Kolkata on the occasion of Durga Puja. Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul stated that an inquiry has been ordered and the Police Commissioner is investigating the matter. The paint used on the road is anti-skid, yet the cause of the accidents is being probed. On Wednesday afternoon, heavy rain made the painted road on the Chingrighata flyover slippery, leading to several motorcycle accidents. It is alleged that the government's initiative to paint the flyovers in the name of city beautification for the festival made the roads slippery during rain. Opposition parties Trinamool and Congress have separately complained that the color-covered roads of Gariahat and Chingrighata flyovers have become death traps, especially for motorbike riders. Furthermore, a video of a motorbike slipping on the Chingrighata flyover went viral on social media immediately. Agnimitra Paul said that special engineers and officials of the concerned department have been instructed to investigate the causes of the accidents. Many are saying that the different colors are distracting drivers; if that is the case, alternative measures will be taken. Whatever is convenient for the people's needs will be done. Sources say that following orders from the Mayor, engineers from KMDA and Kolkata Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot at night and started work to ensure the road paint is not slippery.
