Dhanbad: Preparations have accelerated to reopen the Dhanbad-Bokaro main road near Kenduadih, which has been closed for about six months due to land subsidence, for light vehicles before Durga Puja. On April 16, 2026, following the subsidence of the road by about two feet near the Kenduadih police station and the appearance of cracks at various places, the administration had completely halted vehicle movement on this road for safety reasons. However, the problem of underground fire and toxic gas leakage in this area had persisted since December 2025. The danger had increased further after the road subsidence.
On the advice of experts, work to repair and make the road safe was initiated. Information about repair work starting in August came to light, and construction work was inspected in September as well. Now, the district administration has assured the restoration of the road before Durga Puja. Currently, preparations are underway to resume the movement of light vehicles. However, the final decision will be made after a road safety inspection. The filling work of the Dhanbad-Bokaro main road, closed for months due to gas leakage and subsidence near the old GM bungalow close to Kenduadih police station, has started rapidly. The filling work is likely to be completed and the road opened within three days.
This is expected to smooth the commute for people and the movement of two-wheelers and four-wheelers. For the road filling work, the Kenduadih management has also deployed outsourcing personnel and Volvo vehicles operating in Khaira. MLA Raj Sinha visited the affected site to take stock of the work. He stated that the road will be prepared for vehicle movement before Durga Puja. Later, the MLA also held discussions with Shriram Pandey, manager of Khaira Outsourcing Company. He assured that if resources and arrangements align, the road filling work will be completed ahead of schedule.
