Kolkata. A popular folk saying in Kolkata goes that Goddess Durga descends directly from heaven into the metropolis. She adorns herself at Shibkrishna Daw's house in North Kolkata, has meals at Abhaycharan Mitra's house in Kumartuli, and enjoys dancing all night at Shobhabazar Rajbari. In the family puja of Shibkrishna Daw, the ten-armed Goddess Barwari is adorned with gold jewellery during the worship. Armed police are deployed for her security. From North Kolkata to South Kolkata, Durga idols in 15 puja pandals have been adorned with gold jewellery. This tradition continues every year. Before immersion, the organizers keep the jewellery in custody. At a pandal located on S.N. Banerjee Road in Taltala, one SSI and two constables with rifles are guarding the jewellery. In the remaining 13 pandals, two policemen with automatic rifles are guarding the jewellery. Out of these 13 pandals, four are in the Entally and Beniapukur areas of East Kolkata. The rest are in Shyampukur and Jorasanko of North Kolkata, and Ballygunge, Kalighat, Bhowanipore, Gariahat, and Panchasayar of South Kolkata. Several CCTV cameras have been installed in all 15 pandals.
