Dhanbad. Maoism has been progressively eradicated from Jharkhand, yet the deployment of central forces remains unchanged, though the locations of their camps have shifted. Currently, 18 companies of three CoBRA battalions are deputed in Jharkhand, along with 63 companies from nine CRPF battalions. This means a total of 81 companies of CoBRA and CRPF are in Jharkhand, out of which 18 companies are currently undergoing training. Additionally, 18 companies of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) are also deputed in Jharkhand.
Now, following the elimination of Maoism in Jharkhand, a proposal has been prepared stating that over the next three years, only one battalion of CoBRA and two of CRPF—totaling three battalions—will remain deputed, while the remaining nine battalions will return.
A final decision on this has not yet been taken. The state government has prepared this proposal so that the expenditure incurred on central forces can be reduced. The deployment of CoBRA, CRPF, and SSB personnel in Jharkhand was originally carried out to conduct anti-Maoist operations.
