Kolkata. Ahead of Durga Puja, there was a huge uproar across Bengal regarding Bageshwar Dham's remarks on non-vegetarian food, where he termed it a demonic tendency. Later, the matter cooled down due to the intervention of the state BJP leadership. Now, Barrackpore BJP MLA Kaustav Bagchi has started a 'Puja Special MLA Canteen' for economically backward people starting Saturday Saptami. Bangaspandan Foundation is supporting this initiative. The target is to bring a smile to the faces of 20,000 people until Dashami, with an average of 5,000 people being fed daily. The MLA inaugurated the canteen on Saturday at the Sukanta Sadan Auditorium in Barrackpore and tasted the food himself to check the quality. A total of six centers have been opened in the Barrackpore and Titagarh municipality areas. In Barrackpore, centers are located at Sukanta Sadan, Barapol Mor, Kalia Nivas, and Nona Chandanpukur Bazar. In Titagarh, centers have been opened at Kawriasan and Brahmasthan Chhatar. The menu includes pulao and meat. However, keeping Navratri in mind, paneer is being served instead of meat in Titagarh. According to the MLA, his goal is to bring smiles to the faces of those who love good food but cannot afford to buy it during the puja days. Puja should be for everyone, and happiness should come into everyone's life.
