Kolkata. Bandhab Samiti of Motilal Mitra Lane in North Kolkata is celebrating the centenary of its Durga Puja. To make this event memorable, the committee has chosen a new theme: 'Purono Kolkata-r Ekal-Sekal' (Past and Present of Old Calcutta). This is one of the well-known and traditional pujas of the area. Along with the centuries-old traditions of North Kolkata, such puja committees maintain their long-standing social and cultural heritage based on their localities. Puja pandals in North Kolkata such as Maniktala, Bagbazar, and Shimla Byayam Samiti have their own distinct authentic atmosphere of community pujas, which particularly attracts visitors. Visitors especially prefer these for the familial atmosphere and traditional pujas. Amidst the hustle and bustle of modern-themed pujas, Bandhab Samiti prefers to maintain a beautiful homely and traditional environment in its celebrations. Here, the form of the idols and the decoration of the pandal bring out a traditional touch.
This puja has primarily evolved through the active participation and sincere cooperation of the local residents. During the days of the puja, the neighborhood gatherings are a sight to behold. The organizers arrange various social and cultural programs in which local talents participate.
