Asansol. There is widespread discussion regarding two police encounters that took place in the state on the same day. Social media is flooded with opinions from both the ruling and opposition camps. Minister Agnimitra Paul has expressed her views through a poem. Police gunned down the accused in a rape-murder case in Gaighata and the accused in the murder of a BJP leader in Dhuliyan, Murshidabad, in separate encounters. The Chief Minister stated that the state government is adopting a zero-tolerance policy toward such crimes. BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya said that the rule of law prevails in Bengal. Minister Agnimitra Paul shared her perspective on the encounters through poetry.
On the other hand, as soon as this poem went viral on social media, discussions sparked. What did the Asansol South MLA write? Agnimitra Paul wrote: 'Let crime stop, let people live, let the darkness of fear be dispelled. Let the hand responsible for people's security stop crime repeatedly.' Through this, she advocated for stopping crime, dispelling the darkness of fear, and letting people live. Police bear the responsibility of protecting people; therefore, that hand should be allowed to work to stop crime repeatedly. The Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Urban Development conveyed this message through the poem. However, questions have been raised about the police's role in both incidents. This marks the third encounter under the current administrative context. Earlier, an encounter took place in Baruipur. However, all three crimes are extremely serious. Addressing these issues, Agnimitra Paul's poem states, 'Yet the value of courage is not less, nothing is greater than human security. May the state's power be with the people, may the morning of peace return to every home. We want strictness in suppressing crime, and no compromise on human security.' This poem makes it clear that peace must return to the state and there will be no compromise on security.
