Dhanbad: To increase its earnings, the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation will levy an entry tax on commercial vehicles. This will be collected through checkposts set up by the corporation. Every year, over seven thousand commercial and heavy vehicles enter the city daily. The number of registered commercial vehicles in Dhanbad is nearly 1.75 lakh. Consequently, the municipal corporation will generate a substantial amount of revenue. Half a dozen main roads have been inspected where checkposts will be constructed. Municipal Commissioner Ashish Gangwar stated that this tax is necessary. The list includes heavy goods-carrying vehicles, passenger vehicles, taxis, auto-rickshaws, and buses, from which the tax will be collected.
Checkposts will be constructed upon entering Dhanbad city from NH-19 to Barwadda, near Birsa Munda Park, and near the Gol Building at Bhuiphor. A total of 14,64,382 vehicles, ranging from two-wheelers to heavy vehicles, are registered in the district. Out of these, the number of commercial vehicles is 1,89,597.
