Pandaveswar: A night-long battle between life and death! The rescue operation launched to save the lives of workers trapped in the ECL coal mine was successful. All 12 trapped workers have been rescued. While working in the Kumardih mine, the workers got trapped about 200 feet deep, causing panic. With the help of a mining expert rescue team and police, the operation succeeded by 5:30 AM on Tuesday. Everyone was safely brought out of the mine. The workers could not get out of the mine due to the snapping of the rope of the doli (the lift used to go inside the mine). During the rescue operation, constant contact was maintained with the workers trapped deep in the mine via walkie-talkie. Water and dry food were sent to them so they would not fall ill after being trapped for a long time. Maintaining a perfect balance between communicating with the workers trapped deep inside and safely extracting them, the operation continued all night. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari ordered close monitoring of the rescue operation. District administration officials were also instructed to keep an eye on the entire situation. Later, Durgapur Sub-Divisional Officer Ankita Agarwal and Police Commissioner Dr. Pranab Kumar reached the spot. Pandaveswar MLA Jitendra Tiwari was also present at the site to assist in the rescue operation. With the joint efforts of the Police Commissionerate, Disaster Management Department, and mine authorities, the rescue operation continued throughout the night.
