Durgapur. Abdul Qayyum, a resident of Murarai in Birbhum district, was suffering from severe hemophilia. Due to recurrent bleeding, severe pain, and deformity in both legs, he had been bedridden for the past four months. Accompanied by his mother, Abdul Qayyum arrived at the Hemophilia Society–Durgapur Chapter in a wheelchair. He was admitted to the physiotherapy care unit. He stayed at the chapter for over a month, receiving regular and dedicated physiotherapy, therapeutic exercises, and continuous guidance and encouragement from chapter members. Finally, after more than a month of regular physiotherapy and exercises, Abdul Qayyum managed to return home to Durgapur, about 140 kilometers away, walking on his own without any support.
His family had almost given up hope of his recovery and never believed their son would walk on his feet again. Overcoming the fear of frequent bleeding, pain, and sleepless nights to walk back home was a memorable moment for the entire family.
This is yet another success and achievement for the Hemophilia Society–Durgapur Chapter. The Durgapur Chapter expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the expert physiotherapists, medical professionals, and all chapter members who constantly encouraged Abdul Qayyum and his family during this difficult journey.
From a wheelchair to walking home by himself—Abdul Qayyum's journey is a story of hope, determination, and the belief that life can begin anew: a hemophilia-free of disability, pain-free child.
