ASANSOL: Although it is a BJP district office, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers purified it by sprinkling holy Gangajal. A controversy erupted as a video of this incident went viral on social media. While acknowledging the incident, the Burdwan organizational district leadership has declined to make any comments. On the other hand, VHP stated that the party district office should be as sacred as a temple. According to experts, this is a result of the friction between the BJP and VHP.
Two days ago, the Burdwan district was included in the organizational reshuffle of the state BJP. District President Abhijit Ta was removed, and advocate Ashish Pal was handed the charge of District President. A faction of the VHP is calling this its victory and is quite happy about it. In the viral video, some workers led by VHP leader Rangan Patra are seen chanting mantras and sprinkling Gangajal from the main door of the district BJP office. They alleged that during former district president Abhijit's tenure, heavy factionalism was rampant, and certain leaders were sidelined. Rangan Patra claimed that the objective was not to criticize or insult any specific individual, but to ensure peaceful party activities and divine blessings in the future.
Burdwan district VHP secretary Biswajit Chakraborty disagrees with this. He stated that the VHP leader had no right to do this at the BJP district office. The new BJP district president has refused to comment on the matter.
