Dhanbad: In a historic verdict delivered 22 years later, a court has sentenced three convicts to life imprisonment in connection with the 2004 AK-47 attack at the Wasseypur residence of notorious gangster Fahim Khan. Dhanbad District and Sessions Judge-III Paras Kumar Sinha's court convicted Shahid Alam, Shahadat Hussain, and Tanveer Alam on charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, and unlawful assembly. The court sentenced all three to life imprisonment under sections 302, 120-B, and 149 of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, they were sentenced to seven years under section 27 of the Arms Act and ten years under section 307. The court directed that all sentences run concurrently. The victim's counsel, Shahbaz Salam, informed about the court's verdict.
The incident dates back to January 29, 2004. Indiscriminate firing using sophisticated weapons including AK-47 was carried out targeting Fahim Khan's house in Wasseypur. During the sudden attack, Fahim Khan saved his life by leaping onto a neighbor's roof. Fahim Khan's bodyguard, Vinod Sharma, was killed in the attackers' gunfire. Shahid also sustained a bullet injury in his leg during the firing. Following the incident, police registered a case against the accused under various sections including murder, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, and the Arms Act.
After a legal process lasting nearly 22 years, the court found Shahid Alam, Shahadat Hussain, and Tanveer Alam guilty. Following this, October 3 was fixed for the hearing on the quantum of sentence. Now, the court has sentenced the three convicts under different sections while ordering all sentences to run concurrently. Thus, the court's sentencing decision in this old case related to murder, criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, attempt to murder, and the Arms Act has come out. Following the court's verdict in this 22-year-old high-profile attack case, all three convicts have received life imprisonment. Further legal proceedings and actions in the case will continue as per the legal process following the verdict.
