ASANSOL. Kidderpore Universal Durgotsav Committee has chosen literature as its central theme this year, focusing on literary titan Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. The committee claims his literary works will remain relevant for generations to come. The puja was first started in 1927. To make the centenary celebration memorable, the puja concept is: "The one I have worshipped for a hundred years has to go to Anandamath." The puja pandal is being given the shape of Anandamath. The historical novel was published as a book in 1882 and is considered one of the most influential and politically significant novels in the history of Indian and Bengali literature. The song 'Vande Mataram', the primary inspiration for revolutionaries in the Indian freedom movement, is a part of this novel, which later received recognition as India's national song. The novel was written primarily against the background of the Sannyasi Rebellion in 1770 against the exploitation of the British East India Company.
Committee members state that through the various scenes, images, symbols, and ideas of Anandamath, they want to discover the same image of the Mother whom they have been worshipping as Durga for the past hundred years. Therefore, the puja premises will be decorated as a visual journey of literature, history, art, devotion, and the ideology of the Mother. As visitors step into different parts of the premises, they will witness multiple forms of the Mother, capturing pictures ranging from beauty to pain and struggle.
